As seniors engage more in digital spaces, they become more vulnerable to cyber threats. Following these guidelines can reduce risks.

Cybercriminals exploit through:
  • Phishing – Fake emails/calls tricking them into sharing passwords or payments.

  • Tech Support Scams – Fake "Microsoft" calls to steal money or install malware.

  • Romance Scams – Fake online relationships used to extort money.

  • Grandparent Scams – Urgent calls pretending to be a relative in trouble.

  • Identity Theft – Stolen Social Security or Medicare details for fraud.

  • Malware – Infected links or downloads that steal data or lock devices.

Spam Threats:
  • Free" Medical Alert Scams – Fake offers for emergency devices that steal credit cards.

  • Fake Funeral Donations – Bogus memorial pages collecting "tributes" for nonexistent deaths.

  • Pet Deposit Scams – Fraudsters demand upfront fees for phantom adoptions.

  • Utility Shutoff Threats – "Pay now or lose power!"—redirects to fake payment sites.
